WHY RESEARCH THE RANDOM?

WHY NOT? HUMANS ARE NATURALLY INTERESTED IN A PLETHORA OF TOPICS, WHY CONFORM TO WHAT A STANDARD MAGAZINE "SHOULD" BE BY ONLY FOCUSING ON ONE GENERAL TOPIC? Ø8-12 MAGAZINE IS A COLLECTION OF THE OBSCURE, COLLECTION OBSCURA, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE FOR EVERYONE AND THAT IS OKAY. SOME MIGHT THINK THIS MAGAZINE IS ODD AND TOO RANDOM, AND THAT IS ALSO OKAY. EACH ISSUE OF THIS MAGAZINE WILL HAVE A COMPLETELY DIFFERING TOPIC... AND THAT IS JUST HOW IT IS!

Why print a physical magazine?

We love analog, we love the tangible. We want our readers to engage with physical material and feel the joy of turning a physical page. We want our magazines to be an archive on people's bookshelves, coffee tables, and bedside tables.

In a world that is overly saturated in digital matter, we see the beauty in physical documentation and ephemera. You can gather and deduct so much information from one analog photograph; the subtleties of minute scratches, folds, and dust are all bits of information you wouldn't normally be able to obtain from a digital version. Sharing these details in their original and raw form gives the reader a genuine perspective on the subject. Most of our layouts are created manually using a home inkjet scanner.

We do have an instagram account (@0812magazine) where we share weekly topics of interest on a much smaller scale compared to our print magazine, but it's a fun way to engage our readers and followers in our "world of random."

What can we expect for the future of Ø8-12?

Who knows! This is the start of something new for us. We hope this magazine can fester into something great, but only time will tell. The process is long and tedious, but we hope to release a new issue once every 6 months.... but each issue will come out when it comes out.

Ø8-12 Magazine doesn't conform. It is slightly rough around the edges but not completely chaotic. Not every element on every page needs to be perfectly straight or follow a grid system, and that's the beauty of design imperfection!
